What are the most effective strategies for resolving conflicts between data governance and other departments?
Each department, and the teams within them, are typically busy delivering products and features. Caring for and sharing of data can fall by the wayside. Understand "what's in it for me" may need to be considered when building a data driven culture, whether that is performance metrics baked into year-end goals, periodic recognition of data champions on the intranet and/or with gift cards, or other tools appropriate to the enterprise culture. As well, executive level sponsors and allies (often, the CFO, who would be on the hook for inaccurate filings) can help break down barriers to inter-department collaboration.

What are the most effective strategies for resolving conflicts between data governance and other departments?
First, one major consideration around the framing of the conflict inherent in the title: A conflict between data governance and other departments can exist due to the fact that data governance is a department onto itself -- rather than a part of the culture and baked into each department, as part of the company's shared objectives. The other type of conflict that can emerge, though, once this is done, is between data consumer and data producer, in that one needs what the other has -- or between two data producers, in that one "winner" needs to be identified among them as the source of truth at the enterprise level (i.e. for financial reporting) per data element.
